Olsiewski elected AAAS Fellow in Chemical Sciences

Paula J. Olsiewski (PhD '79) has been recognized by the American Association for the Advancement of Science for her extraordinary achievements.

Dr. Paula J. Olsiewski (PhD ’79) was recently named a 2018 Elected Fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). This lifetime honor was bestowed upon Olsiewski and 415 other AAAS members in recognition of their extraordinary achievements in advancing science.

Olsiewski completed her PhD at MIT with Professor Christopher T. Walsh, and has served as Program Director for the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation since 2000. She has been a member of the MIT Corporation (2003-2009), President of the MIT Alumni Association (2003-2004), and served on the MIT Initiative for Faculty Race and Diversity Advisory Committee (2008-2009).  She has been recognized by the AAAS for her leadership and excellence in industry, government and philanthropy, as well as for directing the development of in vitro diagnostic products, biotech initiatives, and scientific research programs.

Olsiewski, along with the 2018 Fellows, will be recognized at the 2019 AAAS Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. During a Fellows Forum on Feb. 16, they will be presented with an official certificate and the AAAS Fellows’ gold and blue rosette pin, the colors of which represent the fields of science and engineering respectively.
