Dr. Danny Thach to join the Chemistry Faculty
Thach appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry.
The Department of Chemistry is pleased to welcome Dr. Danny Thach to the faculty, where he will launch his independent research career as an Assistant Professor effective January 16, 2027.
Dr. Thach earned his BS in chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, where he conducted research in the lab of Professor Guangbin Dong. He went on to earn his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, for his work on the synthesis of complex terpene natural products in the lab of Thomas Maimone. He is currently an NIH postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Professor Robert Knowles at Princeton University, where his research focuses on the development of photochemical methods for aza-heterocycle synthesis.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the faculty in the Department of Chemistry at MIT,” said Dr. Thach. “I have long admired the research coming out of the department, and I am grateful for the opportunity to begin my independent career here. I look forward to working alongside such an extraordinary community of researchers and to contributing to the remarkable science happening here.”
At MIT, research in the Thach Group will focus on the discovery and development of catalytic transformations that expand conventional retrosynthetic logic and provide novel approaches to biomedically relevant compounds.
