Chemistry Cares: An Afternoon at East End House
Fourteen members of the Chemistry Community volunteered their time to sort Thanksgiving food donations for families in need at East End House.
On Thursday, November 21, fourteen members of the Department of Chemistry volunteered their time at East End House, organizing Thanksgiving food donations for families in need. Located in Cambridge, East End House is a community center that uses a holistic approach to promote the well-being, academic achievement, and successful transition to adulthood of children and youthfrom under-resourced families in Cambridge and surrounding communities.
Volunteers Ivana Hsyung, Xiao Huang, Yun Kai, Ayannah Lang, Piper MacNichol, Deborah Obanla, Katie Pelham, Angelina Reveron-Toro, Danny Reveron, Santosh Singh, Madavin Vong, Connie Wang, Lexy Wyne, and Xiao Zhang, along with Department Head and Haslam and Dewey Professor Troy Van Voorhis, efficiently packed dozens of grocery bags with food for distribution over the course of the afternoon.
This event, facilitated by Academic Programs Specialist Rebecca Drake, marks the return of Chemistry Cares, the Department of Chemistry’s community service initiative. “Chemistry Cares strives to connect members of the Department of Chemistry with local and national charitable organizations,” said Drake, the coordinator of the program. “Though charitable works, we hope to have an impact on the community and give back to those in need.”
Chemistry Cares is dedicated to contributing to the local community and fostering opportunities for group volunteer opportunities within the department.
