Professor Matthew D. Shoulders has been promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure effective July 1, 2019.

Professor Matthew D. Shoulders, currently the Whitehead Career Development Associate Professor, has been promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure, effective July 1, 2019.

Shoulders graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Tech in 2004, earning a BS in Chemistry and minor in Biochemistry. He received his PhD in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 2009. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Scripps Research Institute, he joined the MIT Department of Chemistry faculty as an Assistant Professor in 2012.

The Shoulders Laboratory is focused on integrating the tools of chemistry and biology to elucidate the complex pathways responsible for maintaining cellular protein homeostasis.
