On Monday, November 20, graduate students from the Department of Chemistry presented a wide range of research in the Bush Room at the annual Women+ in Chemistry (WIC+) and the Chemistry Alliance for Diversity and Inclusion (CADI) Symposium. The WIC+/CADI Symposium began in 2019 with the goal of improving scientific communication and helping graduate students develop their presentation skills.

Spearheaded by WIC+ co-president Katy Downey, the event featured a poster session where Hye Won Chung, Erika Zhang, and Joao Shida, Harrison Toll, and Omar Salinas were named the winners of the Outstanding Poster Presentation Award.

“The WIC+/CADI Symposium provides an opportunity for 2nd to 4th year graduate students to develop their science communication skills and to receive valuable insights from 5th+ year graduate students and postdocs through mentor-mentee pairs who help in the preparation of their posters and through detailed feedback from the judges during the event,” explained Downey. “The symposium is also an opportunity to bring the department together, as posters are presented by members of each subdivision which presents an opportunity for attendees to learn about the diverse research occurring within the Chemistry Department at MIT.”
