Zhang will showcase his award-winning research at the American Chemical Society's Division of Inorganic Chemistry Young Investigator Symposium this fall.

Chonghe Zhang, a PhD candidate in the research groups of Henry Dreyfus Professor Christopher C. Cummins and Novartis Professor Robert J. Gilliard, Jr., has been named a winner of the 2026 Young Investigator Award by the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Division of Inorganic Chemistry.

Zhang’s research focuses on developing novel borylene precursors and exploring their potential in bond activation and borylation reactions.

“The ACS DIC Young Investigator Award will support my efforts to develop new strategies for accessing low-valent-boron intermediates,” said Zhang. “This recognition will help expand our exploration of low-valent-boron-mediated small-molecule activation and borylation reactions. It also provides valuable visibility that will facilitate new collaborations at the interface of inorganic and organic synthesis.”

In addition to an honorarium, Zhang has been invited to participate in the Division of Inorganic Chemistry Young Investigator Symposium, which will be held this fall as part of the ACS National Meeting in Chicago.
