Hayes (PhD '04) rode the rigorous two day bike-a-thon in honor of his friend and lab mate, the late Chris Davie (PhD '05).

Martin Hayes (PhD ’04), an alum of Professor Rick Danheiser‘s research group, recently completed this year’s Pan Mass Challenge. Founded in 1980, the Pan-Mass Challenge is a rigorous two-day bike-a-thon that raises funds to support life-saving cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

“It was a wonderful experience to ride in the 40th annual Pan-Mass Challenge supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,” said Hayes. “The two day, 162 mile ride brought people from across the globe to help raise funds for basic cancer research, and I was proud to be one of 19 members of Team Stuie that raised over $120,000 this year! It was a true honor to be able to ride on behalf of my friend and lab mate, Chris Davie (PhD ’05), who battled brain cancer for over a decade before passing earlier this year.”

The team’s finish in Provincetown was included in the CBS evening news coverage of the event.
