Ruth Tweedy, Class of 2020

A young woman sits on a pebbly beach.Ruth is an Undergraduate Chemistry Major.

The undergrad chemistry major at MIT is unique because so much of its coursework focuses on discovery. Students are encouraged to hypothesize as to why and discover their own results, rather than being spoon-fed. The MIT experience, almost regardless of what you study, is invaluable because it produces critical thinkers and innovators. The chemistry program has pushed me forwards by leaps and bounds in terms of my work ethic, reasoning and problem solving abilities.
