Rick Kayser Promoted to Senior Environment Health and Safety Coordinator

Categories: Staff

Kayser joined the Department of Chemistry in 2022.

Rick Kayser has been promoted from Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Coordinator to Senior EHS Coordinator in the Department of Chemistry.

“Rick has massively strengthened our ongoing, long-term commitment to safety,” said Department Head and Class of 1942 Professor Matthew D. Shoulders in an email announcing Kayser’s promotion to the community. “Chemistry’s expansive research areas encompass a wide range of potential risks, from lasers and hazardous chemicals to biological hazards and beyond. Rick has developed an in-depth understanding of the specific hazards and EHS needs of our research groups. Our laboratories are all better — and safer — because of his considerable efforts and meticulous attention to detail.”

Before joining the Department of Chemistry in 2022, Kayser spent more than twenty years as a Research Specialist and was one of the early members of the EHS Representative Program in MIT’s Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences.
