Graduate Student Spotlight: Dilyara Sharipova

Categories: Research, Students

Chemistry Graduate Student Dilyara Sharipova describes her research and answers 20 random questions as part of the Graduate Student Spotlight series.

Dilyara Sharipova was born and raised in Tashkent, Uzbekistan before her family moved to New York City. Now a graduate student in Professor Ronald T. Raines‘ Lab, Dilyara’s  research focuses on understanding the structure-function relationship of ribonucleases, particularly how post-translational modifications influence their activity within disease states and how to enhance their selectivity for target RNA sequences.

“I’m pursuing a PhD in Chemistry because I’m driven by the intellectual challenge of applying chemical principles to understand and manipulate complex biological systems,” said Dilyara. “My goal is to acquire the experimental skills and chemical knowledge necessary to advance our understanding of disease and contribute to the development of novel therapeutics.”

As the subject of this Graduate Student Spotlight, Dilyara reveals the best vacation she’s ever taken, the amazing adventure she’d like to take, the lineup for her dream music festival, and more!
