The Department of Chemistry concluded 2017 with its annual Holiday Party and the inaugural Festive Sweater Competition.

On December 8, 2017, the Department hosted its annual Karaoke Holiday Party, an eagerly aniticipated affair executed by Senior Administrative Assistant Emrick Elias. As in years past, hundreds of Chemistry Department students, faculty, and staff, along with their families, gathered in Walker Memorial to celebrate another year of accomplishments within the Department.

Festive comfort foods were served among evergreen centerpieces, and, of course, a karaoke spectacle was provided by Curtis Knight Entertainment and many talented facutly, staff, and students. As always, the Department’s talent shone in truly impressive karaoke stylings, as people performed in groups and individually to a warmly receptive and enthusiastic audience.

As in years’ past, several lucky raffle winners were awarded gift cards to Amazon.com by Department Head Tim Jamison. New to the 2017 Holiday Party, however, was the addition of a Festive Sweater Competition. Guests were encouraged to arrive festooned in holiday finery – the tackier, the better. Faculty judges Laura Kiessling, Steve Buchwald, and JoAnne Stubbe surveyed the crowd to select partygoers whose outfits they felt were especially eye catching, and audience applause determined the first, second, and third place winners. It was most successful and entertaining addition to an already action-packed and festive night of fun!
