38 PhD Candidates Receive Doctoral Hoods at the 2021 Virtual Investiture of Doctoral Hoods and Degree Conferral Ceremony

The SM and PhD recipients of 2021 were honored with a departmental Zoom celebration, which was streamed live on YouTube, on June 2, 2021.

On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, members of the Department of Chemistry faculty presented 38 PhD candidates with their doctoral hoods and awarded 4 SM degrees in a virtual Investiture of Doctoral Hoods and Degree Conferral Ceremony, held via Zoom and streamed live on YouTube for the recipients’ family and friends.

In what will hopefully be the final ceremony of its kind, the graduates tuned into Zoom and received their doctoral hoods (some in the form of knotted sweatshirts, mailed-in mortarboard caps, and even a puppy).  Department Head Troy Van Voorhis presided over the celebration, in which members of the Chemistry Faculty presented the doctoral recipients with their degrees, and video tributes were compiled to honor the recipients’ hard work in the Department of Chemistry. The celebration concluded with a video compilation of Department of Chemistry staff, faculty, and alumni expressing their well-wishes to the group.

The Department of Chemistry is immensely proud of the commendable efforts and achievements of its PhD and SM recipients, and all were happy to celebrate their accomplishments.
