On Thursday, November 18, graduate students from the Department of Chemistry presented a wide range of research in the Stratton Student Center for the 3rd Annual Poster Symposium jointly organized by Women+ in Chemistry (WIC+) and the Chemistry Alliance for Diversity and Inclusion (CADI). The WIC+/CADI Poster Symposium began in 2019 with the goal of improving scientific communication and helping graduate students develop their presentation skills.
17 participants were paired with mentors to prepare their poster presentations and received a summary of written feedback from 24 senior graduate students and post-doctoral colleagues who served as judges and reviewed presentations. Kayla Storme (Smith and Swager Groups), Angela Lee (Schlau-Cohen Group), and Isabella Borgula (Raines Group) were presented with Outstanding Poster Presentation awards.
Over 100 people attended the first large-scale in-person research event organized by the department since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. “It was amazing to have so many people come and support their graduate student colleagues. After such an odd year, the symposium was a great platform to highlight and celebrate the amazing research that graduate students in our department have been working on,” said Stephanie Smelyansky, co-president of WIC+.
