Congratulations, Class of 2018!
SB, SM, and PhD Degrees were awarded to 63 Chemistry students on Friday, June 8, 2018.
On Friday, June 8, 2018, the annual Commencement Exercises were held at Killian Court. 2,800 students received their degrees at the ceremony, presided over by President L. Rafael Reif and special guest speaker, Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg. On a beautiful sunny day, 63 students from the Department of Chemistry were among the approximately 999 undergraduates and 1,821 graduate students awarded their degrees.
In her Commencement Address to the graduates, their families, and all present at the ceremony, Sandberg urged the Class of 2018 to use their influence to make sure technology is a force for good in the world. “Technology needs a human heartbeat; the things that bring us together and that bring us joy are the things that matter most,” she stated in her concluding remarks.
Following the ceremony, the newly graduated Chemistry Class of 2018 and their guests were welcomed to a reception in the lobby of Building 18. There, they gathered for an array of calzones, salads, desserts, tea, and lemonade and celebrated their newly-established alumni status.
The Department is immensely proud of the graduates, and all they have accomplished during their time as members of the MIT Department of Chemistry.
