Our graduate students are more than just students. With an interest in work-like balance, below are a number of groups and activities our graduate students participate in.
Quality of Life Committee
In 2015, the Department of Chemistry formed a new standing committee on departmental Quality of Life.
The Quality of Life (QoL) Committee is composed of students, faculty, postdocs, and staff from around the department.
Broadly speaking, the mission of the QoL Committee is to craft policies, procedures and initiatives that seem likely to improve the quality of life in the department. Anyone interested in joining the QoL Committee or who has a suggestion for improving the departmental quality of life should contact the committee chair.
Colloquium Series: Research on the Mind
Research on the Mind is a seminar series designed by Chemistry’s Quality of Life: Mental Health Subcommittee with the aim of transforming conversations about mental health. The objectives of this twice-yearly colloquium series are three-fold:
- Increase curiosity and excitement for the topic of mental health by presenting the latest research by prominent scientists in the field.
- Destigmatize discussion of mental health, particularly among researchers and students in STEM programs who may fear that personal struggles with mental health will be viewed as weakness.
- Increase awareness of the multifaceted and widespread nature of mental health issues in academia.
For more information, please contact the committee chair, Angelina Reveron-Toro.
TGIF Socials
Organized by
CGSC, TGIF Socials are held regularly in the Moore Room (6-321), usually one Friday evening a month during the academic year. All graduate students, postdocs, and faculty are invited to enjoy refreshments and interact informally at these events. TGIF events are announced via email each month.
Intramural Sports Teams
Department of Chemistry graduate students organize a number of teams each year to compete in the MIT Intramural Athletics Program. Announcements concerning intramural sports teams are sent out via email.
