Chemistry Cares

Established in 2018 by Academic Programs Specialist Rebecca Drake, the Chemistry Cares program is designed to provide opportunities for the Department to come together and contribute to the Greater Boston community. In Spring 2018, the Department of Chemistry held the first Chemistry Cares event at Cradles to Crayons.

Using funds from a School of Science Quality of Life Grant, the program was expanded and past events have included distributing Thanksgiving baskets to families in need at East End House, making cards to send to people undergoing cancer treatments with Send a Smile, and assembling bags of toiletries to donate to Rosie’s Place as part of Random Acts of Kindness Week.

Most recently, Chemistry Cares has partnered with Food For Free as part of the Just Eats Program and hosted donation drives to support economically-disadvantaged members of the Greater Boston community during the holidays. We are also partnered with MIT’s Community Service Fund Office to help broaden the impact of the Institute’s charitable efforts.

Future activities currently being planned for 2024 include a Red Cross blood drive, an environmental cleanup, volunteer events, and more donation drives.
