44 PhD Candidates Receive Doctoral Hoods at the 2020 Virtual Investiture of Doctoral Hoods and Degree Conferral Ceremony
The SM and PhD recipients of 2020 were honored with a departmental Zoom celebration, which was streamed live on YouTube, on May 27, 2020.
On Thursday, May 27, 2020, members of the Department of Chemistry faculty presented 44 PhD candidates with their doctoral hoods and awarded 5 SM degrees in a virtual Investiture of Doctoral Hoods and Degree Conferral Ceremony, held via Zoom and streamed live on YouTube for the recipients’ family and friends.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PhD recipients were required to get creative and create their Doctoral Hoods at home, hooding themselves with whimsical children’s bath towels, or being hooded by those with whom they were quarantined. Department Head Troy Van Voorhis presided over the celebration, in which members of the Chemistry Faculty presented the doctoral recipients with their degrees, and video tributes were compiled to honor the recipients’ hard work in the Department of Chemistry. The celebration concluded with a compilation of Department of Chemistry staff, faculty, and alumni expressing their well-wishes to the group.
The Department of Chemistry is immensely proud of the commendable efforts and achievements of its PhD and SM recipients, and all were happy to celebrate their accomplishments.
