Undergraduate Career Resources

MIT Career Advising & Professional Development (CAPD)

MIT provides a number of resources to assist undergraduates in planning their professional careers after MIT. Students interested in applying to careers following completion of their undergraduate degree should consult the career counselors at MIT’s Career Advising & Professional Development (CAPD). Many companies, including those recruiting chemists or students with strong backgrounds in chemistry, recruit on campus during the fall semester. Many also actively recruit for competitive summer internships. Students are encouraged to make an appointment with CAPD to discuss applying for jobs, interview techniques, and resume advice during the spring of their junior year if they plan to apply for positions during their senior year at MIT. Be sure to check out their Career Handbook, too.

MIT Alumni Advisors Hub

The MIT Alumni Advisors Hub is an online platform that facilitates meaningful, one-to-one career consultations with advice seekers (students and alumni) and advice givers (alumni) for career conversations (informational interviews), resume critiques, and mock interviews. They also offer a library of over 200 webinars created by industry experts and external educational partners. Students can register for access on the login page with their Infinite Connection account.

Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program (UPOP)

The Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program (UPOP) is a yearlong professional development program for sophomores focused on building the relevant and critical skills necessary for a career in industry, research or academia. Throughout the year, student teams work to gain confidence in their communication, problem solving and teamwork skills while achieving career development milestones. Through interactive workshops, 1:1 coaching, employer events and industry field-trips, UPOP students are distinctively prepared to submit competitive job and internship applications and be impactful in their careers post-MIT. All MIT sophomores are invited to apply to UPOP. Joining and participating in UPOP is the best way to prepare for and secure a summer internship!
