Emeritus Professor of Chemistry

Daniel Schaeffer Kemp has focused on peptide synthesis and conformation, developing chemical ligation strategies, templated helices and sheets, and useful tools (Kemp’s triacid and the Kemp elimination).

Among his accomplishments, he is also known for being the author of a widely used organic chemistry textbook. His honors include the Everett Moore Baker Memorial Award, the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award of the American Chemical Society, and the Ralph F. Hirschmann Award in Peptide Chemistry of the American Chemical Society.
