Roadmaps

The small number of subjects required for completing the chemistry major makes it possible for students to complete the major in three years. The sample schedules shown below should provide a good starting point for deciding on when to take specific classes. Sample schedules include the Standard Program, Accelerated Program, and Deferred 5.12 Program.

The difference in schedules is based primarily on when students take 5.12, Organic Chemistry I, which is a prerequisite for a number of other subjects in the department. Students who are considering chemistry as a major in their freshman year are strongly urged to take 5.12 in the Spring of their first year. This enables students to finish the lab sequence in the junior year, leaving three semesters for graduate subjects and UROP projects.

Questions about possible subject sequences should be directed to a faculty advisor or to Jennifer Weisman, the Academic Administrator in the Chemistry Education Office (6-205).
